Women's Hour Part 1

Radio station 7QT commenced broadcasting on the AM band in 1937 from the Paragon Theatre Queenstown as the 'Voice of the West Coast'.

Irene Wedd managed the station from its inception and women played a key role in the development of the station both as announcers staff. A long-standing station tradition, initiated by Irene, was the 'Women's Club', a radio program and social organisation for West Coast women.

This two-part program, produced by Miyuki Jokiranta, celebrates the history of 7QT and the role of women in West Coast radio. It features interviews with long-time 7QT broadcaster Verna Wakefield, in conversation with colleagues Lorraine Gardner and Wendy Powell, and former station manager Phillip Ebrall.
